President and founder of CAIRO-soft, Wojciech Krakowski, explains how to program the power of passion in the pages of MADE IN.
Every business, from a small shop to large automotive wholesalers, today is based on software that enables trade. Behind many of these industries are the ideas of the Olsztyn-based software company CAIRO-soft. Wojciech Krakowski, the founder and president of the company, will share insights about the beginnings, team building, successes, and future plans.
MADE IN: You started in an era when a computer cost as much as a decent car.
Wojciech Krakowski: My journey into programming began in the latter half of the 80s, when I brought my first 8-bit computer back from Germany. I was in my fifth year of studies, but I already knew that my future would be tied to the IT industry. It was a true passion. I was just waiting for the right moment for change. When I finally received an offer to collaborate with one of the Olsztyn-based software companies, I didn’t hesitate for a moment. I learned a lot there, but the collaboration model eventually began to run out of steam, so I left in 1992. For a while, I worked as a “computer man” at a fuel company in Olsztyn. After several unsuccessful attempts to implement various trade programs at that company, I proposed to write such a program myself. And that’s how FALCON version 1 was born…
